Welcome to Heritage Poker

The Heritage Poker Tournament is a group of poker players who play monthly poker tournaments in McKinney, Texas.

The goal of the organization is to bring together casual poker players for some friendly private no limit hold' em poker tournaments. We play texas no limit hold' em tournaments (also Omaha/8 and others) and cash games every month. We have over 300 players on our list and are always looking for more. (We have lots of wives who play poker as well.) Whether you are a beginner (we have lots of those) or have been playing for a while, come on by and have some fun. We play in a private residence in Stonebridge Ranch, McKinney, Texas. We usually have 5-6 tables of players at our monthly tournaments.

2011 Race to the Main Event

Starting on August 12, 2010, and running for forty weeks, we will be holding a weekly Thursday night tournament. These weekly tournaments will send two people to a buyin at the 2011 WSOP $10,000 Main Event. Here is how it will work:

The tournament will run from approximately 7pm to Midnight. The buyins will be $55.00. Half of the money will be distributed to the prize pool for the winners of the tournament that night. The other half of the money will go into the Race for the Main event tournament. $5.00 will go to purchasing dinner for the group for the night.

Each week players will receive points for their standings at the end of the night. For example, first place will receive points for taking first, second will receive points for taking second, etc. The points given will depend on the amount of the buyin ($50 = normal points, $100 = double points), and the number of players entered (more players = more points). At the end of the forty weeks the top points winners will play in the Race for the Main event tournament. The top winners of this tournament will win seats to play in the 2011 Main Event.

Let's run some numbers. If we run the tournament for forty weeks at $50 buyins and have twenty players each week we will send two people to the Main Event. 20 x $25 (half of the buyin) x 40 = $20,000. While this is an average there will also be $100 & $150 buyin events later in the season, which will increase the money pool.

FAQ:

Q: Can I buyin to the end tournament?
A: You cannot buyin to the Race for the Main event tournament, you must win your way in through the points.

Q: Do I have to play each week?
A: You do not have to play in each weekly tournament. You can play in as many or as few tournaments as you wish. If you are a winner, you will rise in points faster than someone who is not winning. If you play more than someone else you will get more points than someone who does not. This race rewards consistent winning players.

Q: If I run bad for the first few weeks I will never catch up in points so why bother coming when I get behind?
A: Points are given out based upon the number of players and the buyin amount. Later in the season we will have $100 & $150 buyins. A $100 buyin will double the points given out and a $150 buyin will triple the points. There will be plenty of opportunities to receive points and even if you are behind you can catch up by winning a double or triple tourney.

Q: How are the points kept?
A: Points are calculated and kept by the software program and will be posted on our web site.

Q: If the software is tracking points, what happens if I forget to check out when I bust from a tournament?
A: If you leave without checking out at the computer you will lose all points for that night no matter what place you ended up. The reason for this is that if you don't check out I have to manually adjust everything. That takes time and is really a pain in the butt.

Q: How many people will play for the seats?
A: We will have a one table tournament for the winners/points leaders. This will be a table of nine. The top nine points leaders will play.

Q: Are you still going to have monthly tournaments?
A: Yes, these weekly tournaments will be an addition to our monthly tournaments.

Q: Are you still going to have your end of year tournament for buyins to the $1,000 & $1,500 events in Las Vegas?
A: Yes, we will still have that tournament.

Q: Do I have to signup for this?
A: No, you just have to rsvp and show up for the weekly tournaments.

Q: If I win a seat in the end Race for the Main Event tournament, can I just keep the cash and not go to Vegas?
A: No. Your buyin will be sent to the World Series of Poker. Do not participate in this if you are not willing to play in next year's Main Event.

Q: Is this running every single Thursday no matter what?
A: No, there will be some Thursdays in which we will not have tournaments.

Q: Can I just show up each Thursday, or do I have to RSVP each week?
A: Each Wednesday an invite will go out for the next day's game. You must reply to each email invite to play. I have to know the number of players to setup tables and chairs each week.

Q: What happens if I RSVP but can't make it for some reason?
A: You need to call, text or email me. If you don't let me know you can't make it, you will incur my wrath. And if you do this more than once, you will be dropped from the Race for the Main Event series.

Q: I'm not hungry, do I still have to pay $5.00 for food and drinks?
A: No, you may request a refund of your five dollars by filling out a form on our website and signing it requesting your money back. Your five dollars will then be refunded the next time you play.
