October Tournament Results

Congratulations to our winners of the October tournament.

1. Kevin Martins
2. Sean George
3. Sid Holcomb
4. AJ Jasso
5. Danny Padilla
6. Richard O'Neill

There were some interesting happenings from this tournament and one of them was the final hand. If you can see in the picture Sean George held Q5. The flop came Q55 which gave Sean a full house. Kevin just had Ace high. Kevin won the tournament by getting runner-runner Aces for a higher full house. That's what we call a suckout around here.

The funniest line ever said in a tournament was also uttered at this tournament. One of our female players, (Wendy), raised pre-flop and then pushed all-in on the flop. She was the first to act. While the other people in the hand were examining the flop and then folding to the all-in push, Wendy utters the immortal line, "What was on the flop again?". (This was after she had all her money in the middle). Needless to say this line sped up the folding process immediately.

One Step towards towards Online Poker Relief

General NewsI wrote a while back the status of online poker in the US. Here's an important update which occurred today. First, some background. The Treasury department was scheduled to release on Nov. 1 the final regulations on how the UEIGA was to be implemented by banks. As you remember the UEIGA does not define "gambling" at all and because of that online poker, along with other games on the internet, were lumped into the possible prohibition of the UEIGA.

A while ago Rep. Barney Frank introduced a bill in the House of Representatives which would have forced Congress to define what gambling is in the UEIGA. That bill did not make it out of committee. Today a new bill written by Rep. Barney Frank was voted on by the same committee passed. The bill is H.R. 6870 and states that the Treasury department cannot implement any regulations under the UEIGA for anything except sports betting. This means if this bill becomes law, online poker will be exempt from the UEIGA and will be legal in any state which does not expressly prohibit online poker.

H.R. 6870 passed today so it now moves to the full House of Representatives. There are rumors that the bill might be tacked on to a must pass legislation in 2008. If that did happen online poker could be expressly legalized by the end of the year.

This is an important step in the political process if you play online poker. This could open up the gates of online poker again to the masses and we could see a huge main event at the World Series of Poker next year. If you play online or are interested in playing online you should write your Representative in Congress and tell them how you feel about this issue. You can do that here:

2008 Heritage Poker Season

Sunday, December 30 2007 @ 10:57 AM CST Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Hi all--

I just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on a couple changes to our format this year. In 2008 we will changes things up a bit by indroducing new games for the tournament (Omaha, H.O.R.S.E., etc.) and we will be preparing for a big high stakes event at the end of the year.

At the end of the year we are going to have a large buy-in tournament. But, in order to sweeten the pot we will be contributing to the high stakes event throughout the year by taking $5.00 off each buy-in (all money throughout the year goes to the prize pools in which all players can win).

This is how it will work: In the first event the buy-in is $25.00. $20.00 of the buy-in will go to the prize pool for that event. $5.00 will go to the prize pool at the end of year. If there are 20 people playing at the first event then $400.00 will be divided among the winners of the first event and $100.00 will go to the prize pool for the high stakes event. If an average of $100.00 is contributed throughout the year then there will be an additional $1200.00 for the high stakes event in addition to the high stakes buy-in.

The buy-in for the high stakes game will be between $100 to $200 and anyone can play in the high stakes game if they have played at least once throughout the year in a tournament which contributed to the high stakes pool. We won't be doing any point system or freerolls to qualify for the high stakes game.
